Chatra-yantra (umbrella yantra) was an instrument used by early Indian astronomers.

Ãryabhaṭa describes it as being made of bamboo-needles, marked with 360 degrees, and put in the middle of a circle. A procedure is mentioned to find the nāḍis elapsed in a day. [1]
